You Don’t Always Have to Follow In the Footsteps of Your Hero

Edward Furlong was born on August 2, 1977. At that time, Mel Gibson- most recently recognized for his role in the scandalous messages left on the voicemail inbox of Oksana Grigorieva- had just graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia. The older man would move forward to enjoy many successes in the movie industry, for which he would be recognized with the most prestigious of awards, but it was not, apparently, these successes that the younger actor would come to emulate. Instead, Furlong, decided to imitate the angry slurs of Gibson in recent recorded messages. These messages, which said, among other things (according to TMZ):

“If he dares hang out with f**king Ethan, I swear to god I’m gonna f**king rip his f**king heart and f**king feed it to him you understand me? I will f**king rip him a new one, you can f**king, you see if you like him still when his f**king little pretty face is all deformed.” “F**k you Rachael. I’m sick of you … you are such f**king vermin … you are a cesspool of s**t, that’s what you are, you’re nothing, you’re nothing.”

It appears that Furlong, who is best known for the role that launched his career, as John Connor in Terminator 2:Judgement Day, has moved on to receive attention from the media in other, less productive ways. His estranged wife, Rachael Kneeland, who was the recipient of the messages, maintains custody of their little boy- Ethan Page Furlong, born September 21, 2006- and has successfully filed a temporary restraining order.

Furlong, was seen for a second time, as a guest star in CSI:NY playing a character named Shane Casey and is scheduled to appear in Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet next year, but for now his primary concern should be staying the mandated distance from Kneeland and his almost four year old son. It seems that he would do better to follow in the footsteps of a younger Mel, rather than copying his most recent claims to infamy.
