Back in 2003, the Internet didn’t have too much to offer for a thirteen year old. When I started surfing, I didn’t have YouTube, Facebook, Stumble, Digg, etc. to keep me entertained. I had, you know, chat rooms, crappy AOL services, and the occasional goofy video (which generally wasn’t watchable due to my dial-up connection). One of the earliest Internet memes I can remember though was the soundboard prank. Soundboard pranks have been around for as long as I can remember and even after almost a decade of being on the Internet, they’re still equally as hilarious, and equally as evil. Whether you’ve heard ‘em before or they’re new to you now, Audioo has compiled 8 of our favorite all time soundboard prank calls.
8. Hank Hill Calls Wal-Mart
I think what’s most entertaining about this call is the 15 second awkward lapses in conversation. It’s a standoff between “Hank” and the Wal-Mart employee. You’ve got to give the employee credit for staying on the line for so long. This is a long one, but sit through those uncomfortable pauses and I guarantee you’ll appreciate the humor in this prank.
7. Samuel L. Jackson Calls ???
This one cuts straight to the chase. It’s as if the receiving end, all though flustered and vulnerable, was expecting this abrasive phone call. He’s already on the defense by the time the conversation hits the 5 second mark. Perhaps this isn’t the first time this mystery man has received a call from big Sammy J.
6. Jack Black Calls Restaurant
Who knew a Tenacious D album was so ripe with prank phone call material? Most of these sound bytes are taken from Tenacious D’s self-titled debut album, and they work flawlessly in this soundboard prank. You can’t help but grin when you realize whom the victim thinks is calling.
5. Al Pacino Calls… Al Pacino?
It’s hard to tell who’s who in this prank. Soundboard Al calls an Italian man who sounds and talks pretty much identically to the soundboard. This is just a barrage of Italian stereotype. Add some lightning fast responses to the mix and you’ve got yourself from grade A prank call material only comparable to ma’s homemade risotto.
4. Bas Rutten Calls Adult Massage Parlor
If you’re not familiar with Dutch MMA superstar Bas Rutten, watch this video, and then listen to the prank. Now, I’ve got to ask you…“WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THIS?”
3. George Takei Calls Redneck
You know when you put an anti-gay fundamentalist on the line with a homosexual there’s gonna be some laughs. This call, which originally aired on the Howard Stern show, features a soundboard dedicated to openly gay and former “Star Trek” actor George Takei. The “matter o’ fact” tone in George’s voice and the total pro using the board is what makes this prank golden.
2. Dr. Phil Calls Woman…and brings her to tears
Why do people stay on the line for so long when they know they’re being harassed? This woman caught on quickly to the prank, but for some reason, she doesn’t let go. After a back and forth battle, she ends up in tears! Is it wrong to say that the prank was a success?
1. Mr. Rogers Calls Petco
This soundboard pro takes Mr. Roger’s innocent, moral induced life lessons and flawlessly throws them into these phone calls to Petco, all while trying to find his cat. This one makes us laugh out loud every time. Listen and enjoy.
